Mirka Golden-Hann was born in the former Czechoslovakia. She discovered her fascination with the ceramic process when she came to live in England in Summer 1993.
In July 1999 Mirka graduated from the University of Westminster’s iconic Harrow ceramics course with BA (Hons) and received ‘Best Student’ award at Hatfield House International Festival – Art in Clay later that year. In summer 2000 she finished setting up her workshop and built her first outdoor salt glaze kiln. Since then Mirka has exhibited her work in galleries throughout the UK participated in prestigious ceramics shows in the UK and Europe. In 2009 she completed with distinctions her MA Design Ceramics degree at Bath Spa University, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
In September 2009 Mirka became a resident artist at Salisbury Arts Centre where she currently runs her practice in conjunction with managing a busy workshop and delivering the ceramics tuition programme. In 2018 Mirka took on the role of Resident Artist and Head of Visual Arts in the newly formed Wiltshire Creative. Alongside her existing responsibilities for engaging the community in ceramics education she is now also running the visual arts exhibitions programme for the organisation.
In 2021 Mirka was approached by Messums Wiltshire to advise on the setting up their new ceramic studio.
Mirka is a great believer in the preservation of skills and their application within modern practice. She is an inspirational ceramics teacher and a published maker and researcher whose own work can be found in numerous private collections worldwide.
